“Green” Cedar: renewable, recyclable eco-friendly building products
CedarTec™ products are made from selected premium Western Red Cedar harvested from forests in British Columbia, Canada. British Columbia enforces strict regulations to balance the environmental, recreational, and economic values of their forests for the long term. Wildlife habitat is protected, and the biodiversity of the forest is maintained and regenerated.
In the forest, a fallen cedar can remain on the forest floor for well over a century. This durability is the result of a natural preservative that is toxic to decay-causing fungi. This ability increases with age and is sustained throughout harvesting, processing, and usage.
We’re more than just lip service when it comes to sustainability. From log to lumber yard, our processes are approved and certified by at least one of the following leading organizations in sustainable forestry: the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and/or the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). See sidebar for more information.
In terms of total manufacturing energy consumption, wood only uses about 4 percent. Steel requires 21 times the energy to produce, and releases more than 15 times the sulfur dioxide compared to wood.
Buying quality cedar is a wise investment, environmentally and financially. When finished correctly, Western Red Cedar products will last for decades—even centuries—weathering and aging year after year, holding their own in the elements.

We are proud that our line of CedarTec™ products—both solid sawn and engineered—are certified by either the FSC, SFI and/or the PEFC.
Forest Stewardship Council
The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization that only grants certifications to forest managers who follow the highest environmental and social criteria. FSC products are comprised of:
- No hazardous chemicals
- No Genetically Modified Trees (GMOs)
- Respect for international workers’ rights, indigenous people, and Human Rights
- Appropriate management of endangered plants and animals
- Respect for cultural and sacred sites
- A long-term vision for sustainable and renewable forestry for present and future generations
To read more about the 10 principles and 56 criteria of the FSC, visit www.fsc.org.
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a charitable and fully independent agency that promotes forest management practices to protect water quality, wildlife, biodiversity, and more. Our Chain-of-Custody (COC) has met the SFI’s standards for responsible forest management. COC is the path taken by raw materials from an SFI-certified source through processing, manufacturing, distributing, and printing until it is a final product ready to be sold. For more information on the SFI, please visit www.sfiprogram.org.
Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification
Based in Switzerland, the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is an international agency dedicated to sustainable forestry. It is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that works extensively with small forest owners around the globe. Products certified by the PEFC are considered economically viable, ecologically sound, and socially just. For more information, visit pefc.org.
